What is Garba?
The nine-day festival, Navratri, often involves celebration through a style of dance, called Garba.
So, what exactly is Garba?
Garba is a form of dance that originates from the state of Gujarat.
“Garba” refers to the style of the dance, and the event where it takes place as well. Ex. “Let’s go to Garba”.
Garba is a community dance – meaning that the dancers typically form groups, often in circles, and dance together. This style of dance is characterized by high-energy rhythmic moves, repetitive sequences, and colorful costumes.
The dance is performed to a wide variety of music.
Our favorite Garba Bollywood tunes are –
- Nagada Sang Dhol from Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela
- Chogada from Loveyatri
- Udi Udi Jaye from Raees
With social-distancing protocol still intact, Garba will definitely be different for 2020. While large scale events are out of the question, there are many virtual events and ways to stay connected.
Our Community Manager, Sridevi, stayed connected through a video call dance session with her friends. Watch her social distanced take here.
